The funeral of James Skahen, who died at one of the hospitals at Oshkosh on Thursday of last week was held from St. Augustine’s Church on Saturday forenoon last, Rev. Fr. J. Meagher officiating at Requiem Mass with interment in the family lot in St. Augustine’s cemetery.

James Skahen, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Skahen, was born in the town of Rantoul on June 14, 1864. He grew to young manhood in that town and assisted in operating the homestead farm until the early eighties when he left for the west and lived at Ipswich and Milbank, South Dakota for five years and then returned to Wisconsin. Shortly after he left for the lumber district and followed the occupation of lumbering. Some four years ago he suffered a stroke of apoplexy and when he had recovered sufficiently was brought to the home of his brother, Thos. Skahen. He remained with his brother until last spring, when he was taken to the hospital at Oconto Falls and later to the hospital at Oshkosh.

He is survived by four brothers, Thomas of Rantoul, John of Minneapolis, Michael of Cando, S.D. and William of Green Bay, two sisters, Mrs. Martin Barrett of Green Bay and Mrs. John Speers of Rantoul.
