Notes about (Sieur) Charles Francois (Chevalier) Denys de La Ronde (Denys De La Ronde Thibaudière, Denis, de La Ronde et Thibaudière) (DELARONDE).

Charles Francois was my Great, great, grat grandfather Louis' brother.
Yes Charles Francois Denys DeLaRonde 1763-1840 and Magdeleine Pewadjiwonokwe were married in Oka in 18181 and at the sametime thier children were baptized.

Charles was a fur trader and trapper and worked for the Hudson Bay Co. and then became an independent trader. He lived on Drummond Island for several years with his family and when the Island was given back to the USA he migrated with his family and other residents of the Island to Penetangueshene, Ontario in 1828. I believe Magdeliene died prior to that time. Charles remarried an indian woman in his later years. If you do not have her name please let me know and I will find it for you. To my knowledge they did not have any children. Charles is buried in St. Anne's cemetery in Penetangueshene. There are de la Rondes and LaRondes still living in Penetagueshene.I do not know where you live, but if you are anywhere near Penetangueshene, Ontario there is a considerable amount of information available in the Penetangueshen Museum re: deLaRonde. I feel confident that it is reliable as members of Charles' family have reviewed it as have I, corrections as required.
have been made by Charles' branch of the family.
Note: Our name in 1450's was Denys, later de laRonde was added as a title bestowed by the king of France so became Denys delaRonde, as the years passed Denys became Denis delaRonde and then deLaRonde and some mebers bacame LaRonde. If you continue your search you will finde that Charles also used Chevalier as part of his surname, Chevalier was also a title given to members of the family. Charles used all the family titles in his writings.

Our family also practiced naming thier first born male Denis/Denys deLaRonde at baptism -using the original family surname Denis, and thier given name was not always entered on the baptism certificate but shows on other documents.

Charles' parents were Pierre Francois Paul Denys/Denis de laRonde and Suzzanne DeCelles/Deselles Ducros. Suzzanne obtaned a legal seperation later in life and she died prior to her husband Pierre. but as they were both Catholic I assume neither remarried and from the documents I have there is nothing to indicate that they had remarried.

Charles siblings were Louis Denys de la Ronde -1750-1808, Paul Denys de la Ronde 1752-1777, Louis Marie Denys del aRonde 1757, Marie Archange Denys de la Ronde 1757, Elizabeth Denys de la Ronde
