Notes about Betty Jane ten Cate

Obituary:
Betty Jane (Ten Cate) Kruisselbrink...was born February 3, 1933 in Moose Lake, Minnesota to William and Mildred (Young) Soderman. When Betty was two years old, her mother became ill and was hospitalized for several months, it was at this
time that Betty was placed into foster care. In 1936, Betty was legally adopted by John and Martha (Tinklenberg) Ten Cate.
As a young girl, Betty attended country school and then the Edgerton Christian Elemetary School graduating from the 8th grade. In June 1949, when Betty was 16 years old, she was involved in an automoblie accident which took the sight of
her left eye. She endured many surgeries and several months of recovery but Betty's faith and courage in this time of trial stayed strong and in 1951 she made profession of her faith in Jesus Christ at the First Christian Reformed Church
in Edgerton.
On July 18, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Jacob Kruisselbrink at the American Reformed Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. After their marriage Betty and Jake lived in an upstairs apartment on Betty's parent's farm. Later they moved
to a home in Edgerton and eventually to a home in Woodstock. In 1957 the family moved to Artesia, California where Betty enjoyed being a devoted mother and housewife. She was an accomplished seamstress making all of her children's
clothing. It was in California where Betty began raising registered dogs. The family returned to Minnesota in December of 1963 when they purchased the family farm from Betty's parents. The couple made their home here for 44 years. In June
2007 Betty moved from her home on the farm to Ashton Care Center in Pipestone, Minnesota and on March 3, 2008 to Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton.
Family was the focal point of Betty's life, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her and she always enjoyed spending time with them. Betty's compassion and love for others always shone through in her
life. She was a friend to all and you could always count on her being there for you if you needed her. She never turned anyone away.
Betty had a passion for animals. She raised registered puppies for over 40 years. She also raised registered cats, exotic birds and fish for resale in pet stores and to private families. Betty loved gardening and always planted a huge
vegetable garden as well as many flower beds around the farm. Betty could play several musical instruments, never taking any music lessons, she learned to play everything by ear. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making meals for her
family. In her later years, after losing most of her eyesight, music became a great comfort to her. She loved singing along with her music CD's. Betty was a member of the First Reformed Church in Edgerton.
On November 9, 2010 Betty was admitted to Pipestone County Medical Center and after three years of struggling with several health issues Betty went to be with her Savior on November 10, 2010 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 7 days.
She was surrounded by her family whom loved her dearly.
