Notes about Gerardus Ludovicus "Gerard" Clerx

Het gezin vestigde zich in de Dieststraat op het nummer 36 (Wijk C 182), waar het eerste gezin Clerxen zou opgroeien. Gerardus Ludovicus verdiende zijn brood als schilder.

Inmiddels zijn er in zijn geboorteplaats Hoeselt in 1781 en 1783 weer epidemieën uitgebroken, met als resultaat 36 doden. De laatste epidemie die Hoeselt in de 18e eeuw treft, is die van 1794 met 100 doden. In deze tijd grepen en verloren de Fransen de macht in de streek en zoals we weten betekende dat ook voor Nederland een frans intermezzo. Ach, de goede oude tijd nietwaar?

Gelukkig was Gerard Louis die ellende ontsprongen, maar niet alleen dat, hij wordt in 1784 teruggeroepen naar Hoeselt waar het ouderlijk huis werd verdeeld onder de vijf erfgenamen.

Zoals reeds in het eerste hoofdstuk is verteld, verkoopt Ludovicus zijn vijfde deel en keert naar Nederland terug met 167 gulden. Misschien erg vervelend voor de lezer, maar toch wel erg belangrijk voor ons, volgt de volledige tekst van de notariële akte.
