Zijn Peet moeder was Else Meijer, Else (Elisabeth) was een kind Jan Casper Meijer & Aartje Rijcken. Zij is getrouwd met Joannes Gerritsz Molenaar die, eerder getrouwd was met Debora Eemen Koopmanschap.
in de overlijdensakte van zijn zoon Mijndert van Diest (1832) word Als vader genoemd Johan van Diest i.p.v. Pieter van Diest , maar Johan Johannes was ook een zoon van Piet van Diest. Uit het familie archief van deze tak van Diest. directe nazaten dus, heb ik vernomen dat Pieter van Diest op een dag in 1801 zijn huis in Diemen verliet en dat er van hem nooit meer iets is vernomen. Vandaar dat Johannes van Diest dus vermeld word in de Overlijdensakte van Mijndert van Diest als zijnde zijn vader maar dat is dus zijn broer.
