Notes about hendrik van HAL

Het huis is jarenlang bewoond geweest door de familie Van Hal. Hendrik van Hal (geboren 16 maart 1884) woonde hier met zijn gezin. Hij was op 27 april 1911 gehuwd met Maria Heikoop (geboren op 13 september 1891), de zus van de Piershilse schoenenmaker Rokus Heikoop, ze kregen 11 kinderen. De aanwezigheid van de familie van Hal op de Oosthoek begon in 1925, als gevolg van de schoolstrijd die in Nederland bijna een eeuw duurde. De school in Piershil werd opgesplitst in een openbare schoolen een bijzondere (gereformeerde) school. Er werd druk uitgeoefend op Hendrik om zijn kinderen naar de gereformeerde school te sturen, zijn werkgever en eigenaar van het huurhuis deed dat immers ook. Toen Hendrik weigerde werd hem te verstaan gegeven dat hij met z’n hele gezin het huurhuis per direct moest verlaten. In Piershil werd verbolgen gereageerd op deze ‘grove zieltjeswinnerij’ en het duurde dan ook niet lang voordat het pand aan de Oosthoek werd aangeboden aan de familie. Alle kinderen zijn naar de openbare school gegaan, zoals de familie wenste.
