Met het stoomschip "Philadelphia" komt hij op 15 feb.1903 aan op Ellis Island, New York, in gezelschap van Mrs. Nelly Achterberg, oud 25 jaar. De records vermelden niet of zij zijn dochter, dan wel zijn echtgenote was.Als beroep van Engel werd "baker" vermeld. Beiden waren op doorreis naar Edgarton, Minnesota.
