Anna van den Corput
Johan en Cornelis zijn vrij kort achter elkaar geboren in Dordrecht, destijds een van de belangrijkste plaatsen van de Republiek.
De moeder van Johan en Cornelis was Anna van den Corput, intelligent en praktisch ingesteld, maar ook met een zwakke gezondheid waardoor ze veel tijd op bed doorbracht.
Anna stamde uit een belangrijke en invloedrijke familie uit Breda. De moeder was jonkvrouw en de vader van Anna was rentmeester van de prinselijke domeinen van de Hoge en Lage Zwaluwe.

Vanaf het moment dat Anna trouwde (1616) met Jacob baarde ze vrijwel jaarlijks een kind. In eerste instantie overleefden slechts twee van de vijf kinderen. Dit waren Johanna (1617) en Maria (1620) de zussen van de gebroeders. Twee kinderen en dan nog van het vrouwelijke geslacht ook was voor 17e eeuwse begrippen aan de zeer magere kant. Want ondanks dat vrouwen de gelegenheid boden om via huwelijken voordelige allianties met andere machtige en invloedrijke families aan te gaan was het verlangen naar mannelijke nakomelingen in die tijd groot. Want mannen zorgden voor het behoud van de familie en daarom waren 17e-eeuwers heel duidelijk in hun voorkeur naar mannelijke baby’s.
De geboorte van de gebroeders, kort na elkaar, werd daarom als een Godsgeschenk gezien. God meende het goed met de familie!
