Notes about johannes VISSER

paardenhandelaar en boer. Noemde zichzelf koopman, ging voor de 1e wereldoorlog al naar Rusland om paarden te kopen/verkopen. Had aandelen in de spoorwegen van Rusland, die later waardeloos werden.

Zinkweg. Op nummer 64, recht tegenover de Adm. de Ruyterstraat, ligt deze fraaie boerderij. Vooral de treffende paardenkop aan de gevel trekt de aandacht. Alhoewel de aanblik wellicht ouder doet vermoeden werd de boerderij in 1870gebouwd. Op de plaats waar voorheen één of meerdere huisjes stonden. Laurens van Rij nam in 1869 een hypotheek van 700 gulden om het pand voor z'n vlasbedrijf te gebruiken. Nadat hij was overleden konden zijn erfgenamen niet meer aan de verplichtingen van de geldschuld voldoen en werd de boerderij via openbare verkoop verkocht aan Dirk Hoogenboom. Die verkocht het op zijn beurt weer in 1887 aan de Oud-Beijerlandse koopman Jan Visser. Vanaf dat moment is de naam Visser in beeld en dat is zo tot op de dag van vandaag, anno 2002. Inmiddels 'boert' de vierde generatie er. Eigenlijk nog net als vroeger. De koeien en varkens zijn verdwenen, de handel in paarden en schapen .. bestaat nog steeds. Paarden hebben altijd een belangrijk onderdeel van de bedrijfsvoering uitgemaakt, zeker kort na de Tweede Wereldoorlog, toen er een fors gebrek aan paarden was om de landbouw weer op gang te helpen. Vlak achter
de boerderij was tot de oorlog een joodse huidendrogerij gevestigd. Later is dat deel bij de boerderij getrokken
