Waarde lezer,
1 Daar ik door de uitgever verzocht ben een voorwoord te schrijven
in dit boekje, wil ik dit gaarne doen uit liefde voor de overledene.
Dit werkje bevat de levensbeschrijving van wijlen W. Slootmaker,
hetwelk door een vriend van hem is uitgewerkt.
\ Het bevat zijn kinder- en jongensjaren en zijn verdere levens-
ervaring, tot aan het einde zijns levens.
Het leven was hem Christus, het sterven gewin. Kort voor zijn dood
predikte ik te Oud-Beijerland.
Het was zijn vurige begeerte om mij nog te ontmoeten.
1 Vrienden haalden hem met een auto en brachten hem bij de persoon
waar ik logeerde. Hij heeft daar nog wat gesproken, een versje laten
zingen en geëindigd met dankzegging.
Vijf dagen later is hij ingegaan in de rust die er overblijft voor het
I volk van God.
! Wat aangaat dit werkje, ieder kan begrijpen, dat het zeer moeilijk is,
juist en volledig het leven van een vriend weer te geven.
Evenwel is het de moeite waard om het te lezen en de leidingen des
Heeren er in na te gaan.
, Ik hoop, dat het voor velen nog tot troost, maar bovenal tot des
Heeren eer moge strekken; daartoe beveelt ondergetekende dit
gaarne aan.
