Arij Oosterling is op 26 oktober 1847 in Nieuwe-Tonge geboren, zoon van Hendrik Oosterling, arbeider, en Teuntje Romeijn.

Arentje de Korte is een dochter van Beschier de Korte,arbeider, en Susanna Wittekoek. Ze is in Middelharnis geboren op 22 mei 1852 in Middelharnis. Johannes de Korte, visser en gehuwd met Neeltje de Waard, was een broer van Arentje.

Huwelijk en kinderen

Arij en Arentje trouwden op 12 februari 1874 in Middelharnis. Ze waren 26 en 21 jaar oud. Arij was arbeider van beroep.
Op 9 juni 1874 werd Teuntje geboren en in 1877 Cornelia. In 1879 werd een kind doodgeboren. Hester Martina is van 1881, Hendrik is van 1884. Beschier, geboren in 1886, is maar drie jaar oud geworden. Dirk is van 1890, Johannis en Martijntje is een tweeling, geboren in 1892, Martijntje heeft maar kort geleefd. Jacob is in 1894 geboren. Beschier was de jongste, geboren in 1898. Hij is in 1901 overleden.

Het gezin woonde in de Spuistraat op nr. D50.
