Barend Diksz Kock was luitenant bij de WIC en schipper op het schip “Elizabeth Anna” in 1739. Op weg naar Venezuela vond bij de eilanden Los Roques een ontmoeting plaats tussen Barend en vissers van de ‘Engelse Natie’. Ze vertelden hem dat Spaanse kapers hen hadden mishandeld en beroofd en dat ze de ‘vrije navigatie’ belemmerden. Barend nam de Engelsen aan boord en bracht hen naar Curaçao en stelde de autoriteiten van de WIC op de hoogte van het incident. Gouverneur Juan Pedro van Collen schreef een officiële brief aan de Staten Generaal in Nederland, om Barent Dirksz Kock te machtigen en er alles aan te doen om de zeerovers te verdrijven bij de ‘kaaijen’ van Los Roques, bij de rivieren en de kust. Van Collen vroeg de medewerking van alle officieren en onderofficieren om Barent Dirksz Kock ‘te laten zeijlen en terug te gaan naar Curaçao sonder eenig belet of hinderen, met assistentie van de officieren’.

Hij kreeg een commissie van de WIC om Spaanse kapers te verjagen (OAC 10 februari 1738). Een jaar later was Barend luitenant bij de WIC en schipper op het schip ‘Elisabeth Anna’ in 1739 (OAC1549).

Barend was getrouwd met Maria Vos. Ze kregen een zoon, Theunis Dirksz Kock, gedoopt op 27 april 1730 op Curaçao
