Notes about Adriaan Jan Willem Koopman

Zie Pagina 273 (nr 946) De Ondergrondse Pers
In the war years, Koopman worked on the illegal magazine FOR GOD AND THE KING in Utrecht and was arrested and shot in 1944. FOR GOD AND DEN KONING was founded by T. Hessel and L.A. Plomp, while two brothers of the former and Messrs. Vos, government traffic inspector, and Tuinzing had an active share in the publication. The aim was to overcome the consequences of the already threatening surrender of radio sets and to counterbalance German propaganda. For the production of the first numbers, paper and a stencil device from the National Traffic Inspectorate were used. After the release of the third issue, contact was made with A.J. W. Koopman, in July 1943 with J. de Groot, who came into hiding in Hessel's parental home, and the journalist J.A. Ages, all from The Hague. From that time, the latter became the author of military and political reviews. See page 273 (no. 946) De Ondergrondse Pers
