Notes about Alida Eikelenboom

Alida is geboren als de 2e dochter van Hendrik en Trijntje Eikelenboom-Posthumus. Opa was schipper op een binnenvaartschip waarop Alida te vroeg geboren werd en 2,5 pond woog. Ze werd in een grote sigarenkist gelegd in de watten achter het potkacheltje in de roef. In die tijd was er nog geen couveuse. Opa noemde ze zijn grote knecht omdat ze altijd hielp op de boot. Ze kreeg 4 zussen en konden geen van allen zwemmen. Omdat ze vaarden schoot schoolgaan er vaak bij in. Zodoende moesten ze lange schooldagen maken als ze in Amsterdam of Rotterdam lagen te lossen en te laden. In 2009 hebben we een rondvaart gemaakt door Amsterdam en kwamen we langs de schippersschool die ze nog herkende waarop ze triomfantelijk riep'"Kijk daar ging ik nou 85 jaar geleden naar school"! Ze werd als 12 jarige op de wal gezet in een 'dienstje' en zag haar ouders pas weer een enkele keer als ze in Rotterdam waren om te laden en/of te lossen. Haar ouders huurden een huisje in Vlaardingen aan de Waalstraat, waar ook Johannes woonde en zij zodoende verkering kregen. Ze baarde 14 kinderen in ruim 20 jaar tijds (1933-1954)waarvan er 1 meisje Alida is overleden in 1941. Ze kwam voor het eerst in het ziekenhuis te liggen voor een staaroperatie toen ze plm 90 jaar oud was! Nu ik dit schrijf (2011) is ze net 98 jaar geworden! Ze loopt moeilijk maar is erg helder, opmerkzaam en doet nog veel dingen zelf.
