Overigens omsloot die gemeente tevens de stad en gemeente Blokzijl). Per 1-2-1942 zijn die weer samengevoegd tot de heropgerichte gemeente Vollenhove, die in 1973 is opgegaan in de nieuwe gemeente Brederwiede (waar Vollenhove de hoofdstad van werd), die op haar beurt in 2001 is opgegaan in de nieuwe gemeente Steenwijkerland.
