Onder het dorp de Wijk vallen ook de buurtschappen De Stapel, Eemten, Haalweide en Noordwijk. Vanouds viel onder het dorp ook de buurtschap Oosterwijk (ter onderscheiding van het dorp, dat oorspronkelijk Westerwijk heette). Dit is door nieuwbouw recentelijk een wijk van het dorp geworden. De vanouds de Wijkse buurtschappen Rogat en De Schiphorst zijn bij de herindelingen van 1998 middels grenscorrectie naar de gemeente Meppel overgegaan.
