    Scheveningen is een voormalig dorp, tegenwoordig stadsdeel in de provincie Zuid-Holland, in de streek Haaglanden, gemeente Den Haag. In tegenstelling tot de meeste dorpen in ons land, is dit dorp nooit een zelfstandige gemeente geweest. Bij de grenscorrecties van Den Haag met omliggende gemeenten in 2002, is een proefballonnetje opgelaten om van Scheveningen een gemeente te maken (en om van Loosduinen weer een gemeente te maken), maar dat heeft geen doorgang gevonden. De plaats is dus nooit zelfstandig geweest, heeft altijd onder Den Haag gevallen en was vanouds met slechts één zetel vertegenwoordigd in de Haagse schepenbank.
