De gemeente is per 1-2-1964 opgeheven en opgegaan in de gemeente Driebruggen. Die gemeente is in 1989 opgeheven, waarbij o.a. de buurtschap Ruige Weide naar de gemeente Oudewater is gegaan, en het dorp Driebruggen en de buurtschappen Lange Weide en Hogebrug naar de gemeente Reeuwijk zijn gegaan (die op zijn beurt in 2011 is opgegaan in de gemeente Bodegraven-Reeuwijk).
