    OBITUARY Irish Independant MAY 1944

    Mr Maurice Joy
    The death has occured in New York of Mr Maurice Joy a well known Irish Journalist aged 60. He was a native of Killorglin and was educated at Clongowse Wood College. He subsequantly came to Dublin and worked with Sir Horace Plunkett in the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society. He was a great friend of Arthur Griffith and contributed to the United Irishman. He was also a close associate of Lady Gregory, Tom Kettle, and of Padraig Colum in the litery movement of that time. In 1910 he went to Canada where he joined the Montreal Star later going to the USA where he became associate editor of the New York Evening Mail. He also became editor of the Providence News Rhode Island and was for a time attached to the New York Times.
    He was a brother of Rev JOHN JOY S.J. Rathfarnham Castle. Miss F. JOY assistant Matron Coombe Hospital. Miss M. JOY Matron Mallow Military Hospital. Very Rev. P.JOY S.J. Superior of the Hong Kong Mission. Rev F. JOY S.J. who was on the staff of the Jesuit headquarters in Rome and the Vatican Radio. Mr JOSEPH JOY a member of the National Finance Board Montreal. and Mr JAMES JOY Vice Presidant Bridgeport City Bank Connecticut. USA.
