Notes about Lucinda Heide


Edward Bartel Wigg was born October 31, 1918 the son of Ole and Marie Christensen Wigg. He died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa at the age of eighty-seven.

Edward was born in Manilla, Iowa and was baptized May 11, 1919 in the Astor Church in Astor Iowa and later confirmed on October 31, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. He received his education in the Manilla and Nishnabotna Community Schools.

On February 16, 1941, Edward was united in marriage to Lucinda Heide. The couple made their home on various farms in the Schleswig and Ricketts area. In 1975 they moved into their new home in Schleswig, which they built themselves. Edward owned and operated Ed's Seamless Gutters from 1976 until 1984. After he retired, Edward worked as a handy-man fixing, repairing and building new furniture for family and friends until 2004. He made curio cabinets for his children and all of his grandchildren. He made a baby crib for the great-granddaughters and crafted wooden barns for the great-grandsons. In the winters when his garage was too cold for him to work in, he quilted. He made numerous quilts for all of his family members.

Edward was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing and bowling. Edward and Lucinda bowled in the Ricketts Lanes on a mixed couple's team for twenty-eight years. Edward also enjoyed watching baseball and football games on television and listening to Polka music on the radio. On February 16, 2006, Edward and Lucinda were blessed with sixty-five years of marriage.

Preceding Edward in death were his parents; one daughter, Gladys Wigg; two sisters, Helen Hultsch and her husband, Larry; Twyla Messenbrink and her husband, Jarvis; and brother-in-law, Raynor Schlimmer.

Survivors include his wife Lucinda of Schleswig; two sons Glenn Wigg and his wife, Jerrie of Schleswig; Dale Wigg and his wife, Bonnie of Sioux City; one daughter, Beverly Peters and her husband, Gary of Schleswig; nine grandchildren, Bambi Schrader and her husband, David of Story City; Brandon Wigg and his wife, Katja of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Bridget Baer and her husband, Dennis Bonderant; Brett Wigg and his wife Julie of DesMoines; Shelly Kinch and her husband, John of Frisco, Texas; Jaysen Wigg and his wife, Lisa of Garland, Texas; Shawn Peters and his wife, Roshanne of Platte City, Missouri; Heidi Tessler and her husband, Brian of Cedar Falls; and Dirk Peters and his wife, Andrea of Des Moines; nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Vera Schlimmer of Cedar Falls; one sister-in-law, Luella Neubauer and her husband, Leslie of Battle Creek; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Lift High the Cross" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". Soloist, Eldon Hardekopf sang, "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove". Those serving as pallbearers were: Brandon Wigg, Shawn Peters, John Kinch, Jaysen Wigg, Dirk Peters and Brett Wigg. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.
