In 1777 is zijn vrouw Marijtje al overleden. Het is waarschijnlijk dat Jan toen teruggegaan is naar Scheveningen en dezelfde Jan is als die daar met Dirkje van der Keij is getrouwd. In het Westland komt hij niet meer voor.
