Historical Footnote
Maelgwyn House takes its name from Maelgwyn y Hir ap Cadwallon {Maelgwyn the Tall, son of Cadwallon} who ruled the kingdom of Gwynedd from c534-c549. He was a King of great power and influence and known the length and breadth of Britain. He married twice, fathering four children: Domelch ferch Maelgwyn; Rimo ferch Maelgwyn; Brude ap Maelgwyn {Bruide mac Maelgwyn, King of Scots} and Rhun y Hir ap Maelgwyn, thereby founding the Gwynedd dynasty from which the bloodline can be traced to the Tudor Kings and Queens {Henry VIII and Elizabeth I} and right through to HRH Prince William. Maelgwyn died c549 aged 69 of the ‘Yellow Plague’.
