John Somer was born circa 1480. He was the son of "Somer of Henneywell" according to his online biography from the historical members of parliament website. John Somer MP

John Somer was married to Alice Harman of Crayford, Kent, England.

During his lifetime, John Somer held a variety of public offices. His first office was as a common councilman for St. Clement’s parish in Sandwich in 1505-6. He was a jurat from 1506 until his death. He served Sandwich as an auditor in the years 1510 and 1519. He served as bailiff to Yarmouth in 1515. He served as mayor of Sandwich for the terms 1512-13, 1514-15, 1523-4, and 1524-5. He was also the clerk of the market from 1525 until his death.

John Somer was elected Member of Parliament on behalf of Sandwich in 1523.

He passed away in 1526. After his death, his wife remarried to John Boys, who then served Sandwich as Member of Parliament in 1529.[1
