James William Earnest was the son of Euclid Madison Earnest & Francis Matilda Hamilton. He married Martha Jane Cain.

James William Earnest enlisted as a private in March 15, 1862 in Co. G. Flournoy's Regt. With the Texas Volunteer Infantry. He was a private, age 18 and discharged in May of 1865.
