    In totaal heeft de spoorweg het leven van bijna 100.000 mensen gekost. Vanaf het begin van de werkzaamheden in 1942 tot aan de bevrijding in augustus 1945 stierven per dag gemiddeld 75 arbeiders. Niet voor niets zegt men dat elke dwarsligger van deze 415 kilometer lange spoorweg een dode symboliseert.

    Op 20 augustus 2005 is achter het monument een namenwand onthuld. Op deze wand staan de namen van de krijgsgevangenen van het KNIL die omkwamen bij de aanleg van de Birma Siam Spoorweg.
