Beschoten ter hoogte van Nieuwerkerk, Roosenboom stort met vliegtuig neer. Van Steenbergen gebruikt parachute maar wordt in de lucht beschoten. Beide overleven de crash niet. Van Steenbergen overlijd in ziekenhuis van Noordgouwe aan zijn verwondingen. Beide piloten krijgen postuum het Vliegerkruis.
Van Steenbergen is begraven op de begraafplaats Eijkenduijnen in Den Haag. Rooseboom op de begraafplaats te Naarden.
