Hij was boer op de 'Kleine Goor'. Tot vrouw kiest hij Hendrikje van de Berg en als dit huwelijk in 1939 door haar dood ontbonden wordt, zijn er negen kinderen uit geboren. Van hen wordt zoon Aart slechts een paar weken oud. De acht overigen groeien kennelijk voorspoedig op en komen allen tot een huwelijk. Van de twee dochters trouwt Jannetje met Reyer van Veldhuizen (B3.144 geneagram B3.1f) en Reintje met diens broer Evert (B3.145 geneagram B3.1f).
