Notes about Petrus Asselberghs

Petrus Asselberghs pacht op 27 januari 1725 de windmolen van Schilde, gelegen aan de Waterstraat en gewoonlijk de Heimolen genoemd. Het contract wordt beschreven bij notaris Hermans te Antwerpen en
de condities worden vastgesteld tussen Baron de Cloots van Schilde enerzijds en Peter Asselberghs anderzijds. Half maart van dat jaar betrekt hij samen met zijn vrouw het molenhuis. De volgende tekst
vinden we in het boek, dat door de rentmeester van de heerlijkheid wordt bijgehouden: "Meulder Peeter van Asselberg heeft in pacht aen genomen voor 6 jaar ingaende 1/2 mart 1725 eijndigende 1/2 mart
1731 mits betaelende s' jaars 465 vrij gelt alle lasten buijten sijnsen, mits leverende s' jaars 6 mandelen strooij en het huijs in goeden staet houdende nota op commende heb het huijs in goede ordre
doen stellen" Petrus Asselberghs is zijn hele leven molenaar op de 'Heimolen' gebleven. Reeds voor 1570 stond er een houten molen in de heide aan het Zandven tussen Schilde en Brecht, ver van de bewoo
nde kernen. Na een brand omstreeks 1700 wordt de molen herbouwd. De molen is buiten gebruik sinds 1920 en in 1940 door de oprukkende Duitsers in brand geschoten omdat hij als observatiepost had gedien
d voor de Franse soldaten.
