Het sociale leven van de fam. Akkermans
Het is bekend dat deze overgrootmoeder op haar sterfbed aan een zoon van haar, Huib genaamd, heeft gevraagd zijn verloving te verbreken om voor zijn twee alleenstaande zusters te zorgen, Fie en Kee. De ene was kreupel en de ander was blind.
Het schijnt dat deze brave zoon inderdaad zijn verloving verbroken heeft en op werkelijk voorbeeldige wijze niet alleen voor hen heeft gezorgd maar later, samen met tante Kee zes neefjes en nichtjes heeft grootgebracht.
Deze waren wees geworden doordat hun ouders kort na elkaar stierven. Hun moeder was tante Jans, eveneens een zuster van hen en daardoor ook van onze grootmoeder.
Tante Kee en oom Huib herinner ik me nog goed.
Tante Kee was een wat kleine, gezette vrouw, heel vriendelijk en zoals alle zusters van grootmoeder, zijzelf incluis, zeer vroom.
Je kon al die zusters Akkermans uittekenen met hun rozenkrans, die ze voortdurend ter hand namen. Grootmoeder kwam uit een heel fijne katholieke familie. Mijn moeder zegt altijd: "Mijn moeder leek net een non".
Oom Huib kwam op St. Hubertusdag in oktober vaak aan ons eigen gezin de traditionele St. Hubertus-broodjes brengen.
Hij had meer het lange, slanke voorkomen van zijn zus Anna Maria.
Op haar beurt heeft onze grootmoeder haar steentje bijgedragen aan deze familie. Ze heeft er wat gevulde boodschappentassen naar toe laten brengen ! Opa heeft dit nooit geweten.
Ook kocht ze vaak dure kleren voor deze nichtjes.
Vaak nog mooier dan die van ons", vertelde mijn moeder, die dit wat al tever vond gaan.
Zondagmiddag wandelde zij en haar man Piet er gezamenlijk met alle kinderen heen.
Zij woonden in de St. Jozefstraat en onze vaders c.q. moeders genoten ervan om in de grote tuin te spelen.
