Notes about Hermanus Anthonius de Rooy

Apprentice at Technical College from age 13 to 15 as machine fitter. Apprentice to his father from 15 to 19 as plumber.

Herman was working as a plumber at the hospital in ‘s Hertogenbosch with Christina’s brother Wilhelmus. This is how he met her. Herman’s mother invited Christina and her brother on holiday and the rest is history.

During WWII (Oct 42 to 45), Herman was forcably interned in Germany as a plumber. He was permitted to come home to marry, but had to return immediately. (He was two days late) Christina stayed with Herman’s mother and worked in the plumbing shop.

Name changed from de Rooij to de Rooy when the family migrated to Australia.
