Omschrijving: Tweede Wereldoorlog. Verzet.Oorlogsslachtoffer. Henricus Joannes van Dijk werd geboren op 4 oktober 1891 en overleed in kamp Vught op 11 augustus 1944. Woonde op het Lijnsheike
literatuur: H.J. van Dijk was zeer anti-Duits en pleegde verzet door het joods echtpaar Schielo-Mendels bij hem te laten onderduiken. Op 30 juli 1944 werd hij i.v.m. zijn felle anti-Duitse uitlatingen gearresteerd en overgebracht naar de gevangenis in Den Bosch. Op 8 augustus 1944 werd in 's- Hertogenbosch een wachtmeester van de Arbeidscontrole door het verzet geliquideerd. Dit was voor de Duitsers aanleiding om 14 personen uit de strafgevangenis en als represaille voor deze liquidatie te fusilleren. Op 11 augustus vond deze executie plaats op de schietbaan (fusilladeplaats) nabij kamp Vught. H.J. van Dijk was één van deze veertien personen.

Drik van Dijk ( 1891-1944) woonde met zijn gezin gedurende de wereldoorlog 1940-45 op het Lijnsheike. ( Nu Tilburg Noord ter hoogte van Wagnerplein) Zijn vrouw Dien dreef er een kruidenierswinkeltje, terwijl hij zelf de kost verdiende als bedrijfsleider bij schoenmaker Oprinsen aan de Bredaseweg. Hij was een zeer sociaal mens en hielp waar hij maar kon en in een geheime kast bij het magazijn van het winkeltje zaten altijd Joodse onderduikers gehuisvest. Ze noemden hem in de buurt dan ook d,n burgemister van d,n Haaikaant! Hij was ook uitgesproken anti-Duits. Dat speelde zeker mee omdat zijn zonen Jan en Piet te werk waren gesteld in Duitsland. Drik van Dijk maakte zich ook zorgen over zijn zonen en toen een collega op een kwade dag vroeg hoe het met Jan en Piet ging haalde Drik flink uit naar "die moffen "! Hij wist echter niet dat de collega een n.s.b. er was en niet lang daarna op 29 juli 1944 werd hij gesommeerd om te verschijnen op het politiebureau. Op het werk was een pakje shag gestolen dus hij dacht dat het daar om ging, en niets vermoedend melde hij zich de volgende dag op het bureau. Daar werd hij onmiddelijk gearresteerd en overgebracht naar het Huis van Bewaring in den Bosch. De volgende dag zou hij ondervraagd worden door een hoge officier en de cipier vertelde hem dat als hij zijn uitspraken zou bijstellen en zijn excuses zou maken het wel allemaal wel mee zou vallen en weer snel naar huis zou kunnen gaan. Tijdens het gesprek met de officier kon hij zich echter niet bedwingen en het liep zelfs uit tussen een handgemeen en daarmee was zijn lot bezegeld. Zijn oudste dochter Toos is nog als laatste bij hem op bezoek geweest en zijn laatste woorden waren; " Laat alles thuis maar zijn gangetje gaan, dan zal ik jullie wel volgen van boven ". Dat bezoek was op 10 augustus 1944.

Later pas bleek dat Drik van Dijk met nog 13 anderen gefusileerd was . Onder hen waren ook de bekende Tilburgers Wim Berkelmans, Joost van de Mortel, en Sjef van Bebber.

Mijn opa was dus geen echte bekende Tilburgse held maar voor mij als zijn kleinzoon wel degelijk en een eervolle vermelding lijkt mij op zijn plaats want Drik van Dijk gaf zijn leven voor zijn mening.......
