Cornelis Snels, textielfabrikant, geboren te Goirle op 6 januari 1844, overleed aldaar op 5 juli 1929. Hij trouwde te Goirle op 22 oktober 1883 met Johanna Klijs, geboren te Oosterhout op 12 juni 1851
, dochter van Pieter Klijs en Geertruda Driessen. Kees Snels was een zoon van Peter Snels en Johanna Voskens. Als weduwe begon zijn moeder met de fabricage van- en handel in wortel- en behangsellinnen
. Deze producten werden vervaardigd door thuiswevers. In 1866 werd door haar de firma Wed. P. Snels & Zonen opgericht. Daarnaast dreef de familie Snels een kruidenierswinkel en een bakkerij. Kees Snel
s had in Goirle de bijaam 'd'n bisschop'.
