Notes about Hendrick Gijsbertsz Schoock

Hendrick is een (6e) zoon van Gijsbrecht Schoock en Johanna van Voorst. Zijn oudste broer (1614-1669) is dé Martinus Schoock, hoogleraar in Groningen en Deventer wiens levenswandel volgens sommige bronnen niet helemaal door de beugel kon.
Het werk van Hendrick is lastig te onderscheiden van de soortgelijke werken van Abraham Mignon (16…-), die in het Ashmolean te Oxford te vinden zijn. Beiden lijken geïnspireerd door Jan Davidsz de Heem (1606-1684), van wie er een (vergelijkbaar) schilderij uit 1660 in het Mauritshuis voorkomt.
Een mogelijke verklaring is dat Hendrick (bron: DBNL.nl) leerling is geweest van Jan Lievens (1607 - 1674) die destijds in Antwerpen een atelier had, waar hij rond 1636 - 1643 (bron: DBNL.nl) met De Heem heeft samengewerkt.
Er zijn ook werken van Hendrick in het Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen te vinden en voorts is op Artnet een drietal te zien van schilderijen van Hendrick die in 1999/2002/2004 nog zijn geveild.
