Maastricht - Na een slopende ziekte is de Maastrichtse oud-wethouder Drs. Henri Roovers gestorven. Hij werd 62 jaar.
Drs. Roovers maakte 33 jaar lang lid uit van de Maastrichtse gemeenteraad, waarvan 20 jaar als wethouder van financiën en economische zaken. Hij nam eind april 1986, kort voor het installeren van de nieuwe raad, officieel afscheid van de gemeente. Ziekte had hem toen al enkele jaren belet te werken. Oud-wethouder Roovers kwam via de KVP jongeren in de gemeentelijke politiek terecht. eenmaal gekozen als raadslid was hij geruime tijd secretaris van de KVP fractie. later werd hij voorzitter van de fractie. In 1966 werd Roovers gekozen als wethouder van financiën. Hij zou dat 20 jaar blijven, waardoor hij een stempel drukte op het financiële en economische beleid van Maastricht. Onder zijn leiding kwam het MECC van de grond. Naast zijn wethouderschap bekleedde Roovers tal van maatschappelijke functies in Maastricht. Vele jaren was hij bestuurslid van het ziekenhuis St Annadal. Hij was voorts officier in de orde van Oranje-Nassau.
De begrafenis van oud-wethouder Roovers is dinsdag 21 april op het kerkhof aan de Tongerseweg. aan de begrafenis gaat om 11.30 uur een uitvaartmis vooraf in de Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek in Maastricht.
