Sergeant-majoor vlieger van het Eerste luchtvaartregiment op den tienden mei 1940 overleden in een luchtgevecht in T-V 854 (Fokker T-5 bommenwerper) met Duitsche jachtvliegtuigen boven Oud-Beijerland. De 854 landde om 5.47 onbeschadigd op Ruigenhoek. Om 7.00 met 856 en 862 gestart voor aanval op Ockenburg, geland op Schiphol en om 12.15 vertrokken met 856 en 862 voor aanval op Waalhaven. De 854 wordt boven Oud-Beierland neergeschoten; vier gesneuvelden (Stoovelaar, Kuenzel, Oostindie en Boon) en één zwaargewonde (Den Hartog).
