Voor het cafe (De Vreindschap) stond lange tijd een heel markante lindeboom, die bij het verbreden van het Westeinde moets worden gekapt. Ter herinnering heeft Tinie van Rein, kleindochter van Hendrik van Rein en Alberdina Barkhof, daar een gedicht over gemaakt:

Reeds jaren werd ons dorp versierd
Door vele oude bomen
Maar door het leggen van een straat
Werd een ervan nu weggenomen
Deze oude holle lindeboom
Stond Pal voor het cafe
Zag van het Gasterense volk
Vele jaren het wel en wee
Maar ook is deze oude boom
Vele mannen wel eens tot steun geweest
Als wankelend zij het cafe uitkwamen
Dan hielden zij van hem het meest
En daarom oude lindeboom wees er zeker van
Dat zij je nooit zullen vergeten
En wat er ook gebeuren kan
Jouw plaats nog zullen weten.
