Bij hun huwelijk in 1823 wonen Berend Arends en Juda Gramsbergen in Helpen (Helpman, gemeente Haren, tegenwoordig Groningen). Getuige en zwager van de bruid. Geert Kuhlman woont ook in Helpman. De vader van Juda Gramsbergen, Hindrik Gramsbergen woont tijdens het huwelijk in 1823 ook in Helpman, terwijl haar moeder Etje Pootholt in Haren woont, wat al vreemd is, in 1828 bij het huwelijk van dochter Annegien blijkt Hindrik Gramsbergen spoorloos te zijn.
Dit zal mede de reden zijn dat de tweede en volgende zoons zijn vernoemd naar de broers van Berend Arends. Vanaf 1824 (geboorte dochter Wubbegien) woont het gezin aan de Hoornschedijk, Haren wijk E, nr. 1.
