Hij gaf een bundeltje gedichten uit onder de schuilnaam "Mein van Hessen" (zie wapen). Het boekje bevat "Afrikaanse en Nederlandse Verse". Het heet op zijn Zuid-Afrikaans "In mijn eensame Hof".
De familie voert een wapen:
Gedeeld: a. in goud een rode schoorsteenhaal: b. in rood een naar links gewende bijl. Helmteken: de schoorsteenhaal en de bijl van het schild tussen een van rood en goud en gouden rood doorsneden vlucht. Dekkleden: rood, gevoerd van goud.
N.B. Dit is het wapen Winolt dat door Rietstap in zijn Arnorial Général beschreven wordt; deze ontleent het wapen wederom aan Siebmacher, die het beschrijft als het wapen van een uit Hessen afkomstige familie. Enig verband daarmee s niet aangetoond.
