Nadat Wicher reeds op zijn vierde jaar wees werd, werd hij opgevoed door zijn grootouders van vaders kant Albert Sieders, grofsmid te Dedemsvaart, en Alberts tweede vrouw Hendrikje Bosman. Zij behoorden tot de Christelijke Afgescheiden Gemeente te Dedemsvaart en Wicher werd door zijn grootouders in de leer van die geloofsrichting opgevoed. Catechetisch onderwijs ontving hij van Ds. A.F. Kok, die van 1860 tot 1865 predikant was bij de Christelijke Afgescheiden Gemeente te Dedemsvaart. Ds. Kok drong er bij Wicher op aan voor het ambt van predikant te kiezen. Daartoe gaf hij hem gratis les in de oude talen en door zijn medewerking werd Wicher in staat gesteld aan de ,,Theologische School van de Christelijk Afgescheidene Gereformeerde Kerk in Nederland" te Kampen te studeren. Van september 1865 tot juli 1868 volgde Wicher aldaar de opleiding tot predikant.
- Na het classicaal examen op 7 oktober 1868 te Goes te hebben afgelegd was Ds. Wicher Sieders achtereenvolgens predikant te:
a) Axel, van 11 oktober 1868 tot 28 mei 1871. Aldaar bevestigd door Ds. A. Brink van Terneuzen.
b) Herwijnen, van 4 juni 1871 tot 2 juni 1873. Aldaar bevestigd door Ds. E.F. Smit van Gorinchem.
c) Enkhuizen, van 8 juni 1873 tot 29 februari 1880. Aldaar bevestigd door Ds. Chr. Steketee Azn. van Andijk.
De kerkelijke gemeenten te Axel, Herwijnen en Enkhuizen werden tot 1869 ,,Christelijke Afgescheiden Gemeente" genoemd en daarna ,,Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerk".
d) Vlaardingen, van 29 februari 1880 tot 30 november 1922
