Notes about Philippus Johannes Delwel

In ieder geval was de NL stamvader (zie mijn eerdere reactie) de schrijfkunst nauwelijks machtig. In documenten wordt het verschillend gespeld (chronologisch: Delwil, Dellewel, Delwel/Dellwell) terwijl hij zelf een keer tekent (nou ja...) met Delijl (Delille, Delville?).
Hij komt vanuit Dorsten in Duitsland naar Nederland (Rotterdam) rond 1780, in Dorsten heeft hij verbleven bij de Gildemeester Faust, maar is verm. geboren in Cambag/Gambach Dld rond 1753 uit onbekende ouders. Hij is dan glazenmaker/verver, maar hij begint snel een herberg met kruidenierswinkel en kolfbaan middenin wat nu het Kralingse Bos is. De herberg gaat in 1821 over op zijn zoon Hendrik.
Iedereen in Nl met de naam Delwel/Dellwell stamt van hem af.

Het enige wat echt vaststaat is dat Philippus Johannes Delwel (Of Dellewel, Delwil, zoals in het begin in de aktes staat) rond 1780 in Rotterdam aankwam vanuit Dorsten in Duitsland (waar hij overigens niet geboren is, hij was daar onder de zorg geweest van een gildemeester). Hij was glazenmaker/verver, trouwde in Rotterdam in 1783 (zie mijn eerdere mail). Van hem stamt iedereen in Nederland die Delwel of Delwell heet af. Zonder uitzondering. Weinig adel tot nu toe. Gewoon een handwerksman vermoedelijk, met onbekende ouders. Hij sleet zijn verdere leven als eigenaar van een herberg annex kruidenierswinkel met kolfbaan die gelegen was op de plaats waar nu het Kralingse Bos is, aan het einde van het Lange Pad. Zijn zoon Hendrik nam de zaak in 1821 over. Vandaar al die Delwellen in Rotterdam (oorspronkelijk dus Hillegersberg en Kralingen).
