Het uitgangspunt is het echtpaar Pieter Brugman en Gerbrigje Slaghem. Deze leefden in de eerste helft van de 18e eeuw in Lutjebroek of directe omgeving. De naam Slaghem, die men nu niet meer aantreft, was toen een bekende naam in die omgeving. Het genoemde echtpaar had meerdere kinderen, maar aantoonbaar uit de gegevens is slechts de zoon Pieter te Grootebroek, gedoopt op 9 januari 1735 . Deze Pieter had minstens 11 kinderen, waarvan 9 jongens; hiervan zijn er zeker 3 jong overleden. Van drie van de jongens kennen wij, hoewel slechts gedeeltelijk, het nageslacht; achtereenvolgens hebben deze 7, 4 en 12 kinderen. Niet te verwonderen dus dat er thans nog talrijke Brugmannen in onze omgeving wonen, die van deze afstammen
