Over de naam "Oost, alias Langedijk" heeft de Wekgroep Brederode het volgende te zeggen: Op het eerste gezicht doet het vreemd aan een Dirk Pietersz. Oost alias Langedijk te ontmoeten in de rij afstammelingen van de Brederode's. Afgezien van het feit dat de aan zijn kinderen gegeven voornamen, zowel naar vaderzijde als naar moederskant systematisch en compleet in de familie passen, blijken vier van de kinderen als volwassenen die naam te gaan dragen. Sara, die bij de huwelijksaangifte Oost werd genoemd, heette later bij de doop van haar kinderen Brederode. Frederik trouwde in 1783 en overleed in 1797 als Brederode. Maartje idem in resp. 1800 en 1822. Abraham overleed in 1779 als Abraham Langedijk van Brederode. Om de een of ander nog niet opgehelderde reden heeft hun vader die naam gedurende zijn leven niet gedragen. De aanduiding Langedijk hangt evident samen met de plaats of streek waar zijn moeder vandaan kwam en waar hij vermoedelijk geboren is: Broek op Langedijk (van welke omgeving de archieven helaas bijzonder incompleet zijn). Dat Dirk Pietersz. Oost identiek is met Dirk Pietersz. Langedijk blijkt uit de gevonden documenten van zijn overlijden. Het grafboek vermeldt onder dagtekening van 06/01/1766 het overlijden van Dirk Pietersz. Langedijk; het impost-register constateerd per die datum het overlijden van Dirk Pietersz. Oost. De aanduiding Oost kan ook op de ligging van zijn werf duiden: Oost Grafdijk?
