    Hoewel de naam Compascuum al heel lang bekend was en b.v. geregeld te vinden is in notarisakten, is die naam de eerste 10 jaar niet te vinden in het Bevolkingsregister van Emmen. Daar gaven de bewoners van hier ‘Rundeveen’ als woonplaats op. Ook de bewoners van de Maatschappij gaven die naam op. Pas in 1871 leest men in de Burgerlijke Stand de naam Compascuum, maar het duurde nog enkele jaren voordat dit gewoon werd.
