"Veel praten is niet moeilijk, maar de daad bij het woord voegen is niet zo eenvoudig. Dat kost veel inspanning en zelfopoffering."


"Hij was geen man van veel woorden, maar iemand die zijn plichten deed en opkwam voor de geestelijke en tijdelijke belangen van zijn gezin. Samen met moeder heeft hij er bijna 40 jaar voor mogen zorgen. Waar haalde hij die kracht vandaan? Uit zijn geloof, dat was zijn kompas. Daar liet hij zich door leiden in zijn handel en wandel. Daaruit putte hij de kracht om dienstvaar te zijn aan zijn gezin en kerk. Hij was een van de allertrouwste koorzangers, wel 27 jaar lang. De oude deken Veltman zal wel trots op hem zijn geweest.


Vader had nog lang kunnen genieten van zijn haard, huis en hof. Hij bellefde er veel stille vreugde. "Maar als  ik heel mijn verdere leven invalide zou moeten zijn, moet OL me maar halen" ; zei hij. Dat is gebeurd, en dan is het beter zo al begrijp  je het ook niet. Door ons geloof weten wij dat vader nu thuis is bij de Heer
