    Vader was van beroep Küper; Der Küfer ist ein handwerklicher Beruf, bei dem Behälter und Gefäße , meist aus Holz, hergestellt werden. Küfe (die) im ursprünglichen Sinne bezeichnet einen Kübel oder Eimer. Hergestellt werden in dem Beruf Gefäße aus Dauben , speziell geformten Holzstücken, die mit hölzernen oder eisernen Reifen zusammengehalten werden, der Reifschneider oder Bandreißer fertigte hölzerne Fassreifen an. Diese Technik war bereits im 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr. in Gallien bekannt. In der römischen Kaiserzeit verschickte man nordgallischen und pannonischen Wein überwiegend in Holzfässern. Daubengefäße waren in den Nordprovinzen für die Vorratshaltung gebräuchlich. Ein Spezialwerkzeug des Küfers war der Bandhaken, mit dem Fassreifen über die Dauben gezogen wurden.
