"Zo stonden we nog plotseling rond het sterfbed van moeder. Wie had ooit kunnen denken dat moeder het eerst van ons zou zijn heengegaan. Ze was altijd zo gezond geweest, zo werkzaam,  zo bezorgd. Het was of moeder altijd bij ons zou blijven. Ze leefde rustig, tevreden en gelukkig met vader.  Ze waren aan elkaar verknocht als klimop rond de stam van een boom . Ze genoten van de kleine dingen van iedere dag. Moeder's ogen konden fonkelen van geluk bij het vernmen van een goede tijding. haar gezicht kon ook betrekken als een heldere hemel waar een wolkenveld door drijft, want ze leefde innig mee met het lief enleed van de mensen, van de buren, van de kinderen  en kleinkinderen. Ze kon met trots vertellen over haar achterkleinkinderen.


En zo worden we niet moe over moeder na te denken en te praten. Ze was onze liefste bezit op aarde. Ze was een engel van goedheid"
