Huisje 'op het Hoge' ten oosten van het Verlende Oosterdiep.

Nabij de NH kerk en pastorie stonden twee huisjes 'op het hoge' . In het noordelijkste huisje op Plaats 24 woonde Hendrik Wehkamp en Lena Suelmann. Het was een schamel huisje op ongeveer 150 meter afstand van het Verlengde Oosterdiep.Het  huis staat aan de westkant van de oude Schoolweg-Noord, tussen de weg en de Runde.  Het Verlengde Oosterdiep was al gegraven, evenals een aantal zij-wijken . Echter de zijwijk naar hun woning was nog overgeslagen. Aan de andere kant van de reeds gegraven wijk woonden ze naast Bernard Berens en Griet Wilken. In de beginjaren is het een keet, maar gaandeweg wordt de woning verbeterd. Een aantal keren wordt de familie getroffen door brand, de laatste keer tijdens WO II toen een fosforplaatje uit een vliegtuig op het strodak landde.  De schuur bleef gespaard en werd omgebouwd tot woning.  In 1957 verhuisde het paar naar de Pastoor Vroomstraat.


In deze periode is de bewoning in de Maatschappij, later Berkenrode is al aardig gevorderd.
