Is bij hevige sneeuwstorm(15-2-1872) op weg naar Duinkerken op de hoogte van Schouwen(Zeeland) bij het schietloden over boord geslagen en direct verdronken. Nimmer iets gehoord van aangespoeld of gevonden, na vergeefs gedane moeite door de bemanning aangewend met afzoeken van de zee. Advertentie: "Heden ontving ik de onverwachte als ontzettende tijding, dat mijn geliefde Echtgenoot KLAAS LARIBY, gezagvoerder aan boord van het stoomschip "Prins van Oranje", op de van hier naar Duinkerken uitgaande reis, in de Noordzee over boord geslagen en verdronken is. Hij laat mij met drie kinderen achter, waarvan twee uit zijn vorig huwelijk, alle te jong om dit smartelijk verlies te beseffen. Rotterdam, 6 februari 1872, weduwe K.
