Notes about Dirk Philippus (Jan) van Gorkum (Gercken, Gorcum)

Jan ook wel genaamd Dirk van Gorcum was vanaf 1688 scherprechter te Groningen, maar werd in 1694 wegens openbare dronkenschap uit zijn functie ontheven. Kennelijk was hij wel goed genoeg voor de Friezen, want in 1702 wordt hij te Leeuwarden benoemd.
In Groningen was een versje over hem in de omloop:
Geen Zaterdag in "t gansche jaar,
Of meester Dirk mijn Bessevaar,
Die veegde achtgerveerig slagen,
Moest merk en roedes zelvers dragen,
Doch "t was een sterke, stoute gast,
Die meester Dirk naar "t leven tast.
En meester Dirk of gij"t ook wet,
Die veegde dat het foorde zweet,
Hun liep van schouders tot de lenden,
En of zijn zich al tot hem wenden
En schreeuwdenm duizend ach! en wee!
Hun drukte hun de Vriesche V
Zoo netjes op het schouderblas
Alsof Hosson "t getekend had.
