Hij schreef voor de Lemsterkrant.Hij was ook recensent bij de Leeuwarder Courant en andere streekbladen. Ook was hij pistonist (piston: kleine trompet) en dirigent.Hij werkte ook als typograaf.Hij schreef vele recenties over muziekuitvoeringen. In april 1976 kreeg hij een konklijke onderscheiding voor zijn werk: de eremedaille in zilver. In 1988 kreeg hij een onderscheiding voor zijn verdiensten voor de Nederlandse Brassbandwereld.Hij kreeg ook nog de draagmedaille van de stad Leeuwarden.

Hij werkte als typograaf in Lemmer, Amsterdam (1933), Sint-Annaparochie en Leeuwarden. Op 10-jarige leeftijd leerde hij al piston blazen. Hij was later ook nog dirigent. In 1973, als gevolg van ziekte, werkte hij alleen nog als recensent. Hij gaf een boekje uit met zijn memoires.
